Google is considering the development of a data center in Våler, Norway, with a potential site identified at Gylderåsen. This location has been designated as an industrial area since 2009. The project stems from a 2017 feasibility study. Google has applied for 480MW of power capacity for this potential facility in the NO1 power region. While this represents an early step, Google has indicated that construction is not imminent and a final decision on the site has not yet been made. The Norwegian government actively supports the data center industry, aiming to create jobs and promote a green digital transformation. Google is also developing its first data center campus in Skien, Norway, which broke ground in February 2024.
