Asociația Interlan is a non-profit organization that coordinates the operation and development of Romania’s national Internet Exchange platform, InterLAN-IX.
Asociația Interlan is a Romanian non-profit professional association founded in 2005 to support the development of internet infrastructure, interconnection standards, and cooperation among network operators. It represents and brings together a wide range of members from across the telecommunications and IT ecosystem, including internet service providers (ISPs), content providers, hosting companies, and technology networks.
The Association operates and manages InterLAN-IX, Romania’s largest neutral Internet Exchange platform, which interconnects over 130 networks (ASNs) through points of presence across all major regions of the country and internationally. Through InterLAN-IX, the association promotes open peering, regional interconnectivity, traffic localization, and internet resilience in Romania and Southeast Europe.
Beyond technical operations, Asociația Interlan is active in regulatory and public policy discussions relevant to the telecommunications and digital infrastructure sectors. It advocates for the interests of independent operators and fosters dialogue between industry stakeholders and public authorities. The association also regularly organizes industry events such as RONOG (Romanian Network Operators Group), educational workshops, and collaborative initiatives aligned with the European and global IXP communities.
Asociația Interlan is a full member of Euro-IX and RIPE NCC, and maintains active relationships with peer organizations, internet governance bodies, and standardization groups. Its mission is to strengthen the Romanian internet ecosystem through neutral infrastructure, professional collaboration, and community-driven initiatives.
