Enemalta Underground Data Center

The Enemalta Underground Data Center, located in Marsa, Malta, is a state-of-the-art facility developed within the historic underground tunnels of the former Marsa Power Station. This pilot project, a collaboration between Enemalta plc and Streamcast Technologies Inc., leverages the stable structure and naturally low temperatures of the tunnels to provide an ideal environment for data center operations, enhancing equipment efficiency and offering high-level protection from natural elements and security threats.

The first phase of the data center was completed in a record eight weeks, featuring sophisticated electrical infrastructure, air conditioning, and other advanced equipment. It boasts 24x7 operational support with failover systems to eliminate downtime. The facility is directly connected via fiber optic cables to Sicily, utilizing Enemalta's existing network infrastructure. This project marks a significant step for Enemalta in diversifying its portfolio into the global data center market, with potential for further expansion within the extensive underground tunnel network.
