Google has acquired 389 acres of land in Port Dickson, Malaysia, from Gamuda for RM455.2 million ($107.3 million). The purchase includes an agreement for Gamuda to carry out enabling works, such as earthworks and external infrastructure, valued at RM1 billion ($235.9 million). The site is located 90km south of Kuala Lumpur, along the Malacca Strait, and is expected to support 700MW-1GW of data center capacity.
The development will include a new water treatment plant with a production capacity of 65 million liters per day, pipelines connecting the plant to the data center’s service reservoir, and off-river storage to ensure water availability during dry seasons. These infrastructure projects are scheduled for completion in 2025, 2027, and 2028, respectively. However, details on the number and scale of the planned data centers have not been disclosed.
Google-affiliate Pearl Computing Malaysia is leading the project, continuing Google's expansion in Malaysia. The company previously acquired land in Elmina Business Park for another data center development, set to go live in 2026 and 2027. Google first announced plans for a cloud region in Malaysia in 2022, reinforcing its commitment to growing its presence in Southeast Asia.
