Microsoft has acquired 123 acres of land in Kulai, Johor Bahru, Malaysia, for the development of data centers. The site is located within Eco Business Park VI and was sold by EcoWorld for RM402.3 million ($85.2m).
This acquisition is part of Microsoft's broader commitment to invest $2.2 billion in cloud computing and artificial intelligence (AI) services in Malaysia over the next four years. The Kulai data center development signifies Microsoft's expansion in the region, which is experiencing growth due to spillover demand from Singapore.
The local Microsoft entity involved in the transaction is principally involved in the provision of data center services and is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Microsoft Ireland Operations Limited. This development is expected to further stimulate demand for other industrial products within Eco Business Park VI.
