Nxtra Nairobi

Nxtra by Airtel Africa has begun construction on East Africa’s largest data center, a landmark facility located in Tatu City, Kenya. With a planned capacity of 44 megawatts, the center is designed to meet the growing demands of cloud computing and AI workloads across the continent. The project will unfold in two phases of 22MW each, with full operations expected by the first quarter of 20272.

Strategically positioned in a special economic zone near Nairobi, the data center benefits from tax incentives and access to renewable energy; 95% of Tatu City's power is green, with a third sourced from solar. This aligns with Nxtra’s commitment to sustainability and energy efficiency, ensuring the facility meets global standards for reliability and resilience.

The infrastructure will feature high-density GPU-ready racks, multiple redundant fiber paths, and advanced security systems, offering 99.999% uptime. It’s tailored for hyperscalers, enterprises, and governments seeking scalable, secure hosting solutions. The center is expected to attract global tech players, enhance data sovereignty, and lower digital service costs in the region.

Beyond its technical prowess, the project is a major economic catalyst. It will generate hundreds of jobs during construction and operation, while injecting millions into Kenya’s tech ecosystem through local partnerships.
