AMACO Mombasa

AMACO Energy Group, a Greek multinational firm, is seeking approval for a significant US$1.5 billion (KSh 194 billion) AI data center project in Mombasa, Kenya. A key feature of this proposed facility is its complete independence from the national electricity grid and conventional natural-gas infrastructure. AMACO plans to leverage its "Hercules" solution, an offshore smart power ecosystem that integrates power generation, AI-driven optimization, heat and cold recovery, and direct data center integration. This autonomous offshore deployment aims to overcome East Africa's power constraints, including grid capacity issues and high energy costs, thereby accelerating data center development and supporting regional digital growth. While the exact location within Mombasa or if it will be moored offshore is yet to be confirmed, the project signifies a major investment in high-performance computing and artificial intelligence infrastructure for the region.
