KDDI Corporation's TELEHOUSE Osaka Sakai is a new AI data center situated in Osaka, Japan. The facility is located on a portion of the former Sharp LCD screen manufacturing plant in the Sakai area.
KDDI initially signed an agreement with Sharp in June 2024 to develop the data center and announced plans to acquire the site in December. The data center is designed to host a significant number of servers, including a substantial quantity of GPUs, and will employ both air and liquid cooling systems.
Set to commence operations in fiscal 2025, TELEHOUSE Osaka Sakai will feature advanced GPU infrastructure, such as the Nvidia GB200 NVL72. This capability aims to accelerate the development of large-scale generative AI models with trillions of parameters.
The broader site, originally constructed by Sharp in 2009, spans 1.27 million sqm. SoftBank is also developing its own data center on a separate part of the site.
