PatagoniaIX is the southernmost neutral Internet Exchange Point (IXP) in the world, strategically located in Punta Arenas to serve the Magallanes region and southern South America. As a vendor-neutral, resiliency-driven interconnection hub, PatagoniaIX enables efficient, low-latency traffic exchange between ISPs, content providers, enterprises, and academic networks, fostering regional internet resilience and sovereignty.
Our mission is to decentralize traffic flows and reduce dependency on distant upstream providers by keeping local and regional traffic within the territory. This results in improved performance, lower transit costs, and enhanced stability for all connected members.
PatagoniaIX is operated with open peering policies, route server support, and native IPv6 and BGP capabilities. Members benefit from:
- Direct interconnection with other local networks
- Reduced latency to regional and national destinations
- Improved fault tolerance in case of upstream failures
- Lower dependency on Santiago or international transit for local reachability
- Optional colocation and cross-connect services in our affiliated data center
By fostering local interconnection, PatagoniaIX empowers ISPs, universities, public institutions, CDNs, and private networks to deliver faster, more reliable services throughout southern America. As the only IXP in the far south of the continent, we are a key enabler for digital infrastructure development and network resilience in one of the world’s most remote inhabited regions.
