InterLAN-IX is the national Internet Exchange platform of Romania and the largest neutral IXP in the country. Established in 2005 and operated by the non-profit Interlan Association, it plays a central role in the Romanian and regional interconnection ecosystem.

The platform provides a robust, distributed peering infrastructure with points of presence (PoPs) in 10 cities across Romania – including Bucharest, Constanța, Cluj-Napoca, Iași, Timișoara, Craiova, Arad, Suceava, Târgu Secuiesc, and Sibiu – as well as international PoPs in Frankfurt (Equinix FR5) and Sofia, ensuring excellent geographic coverage for participants across Central and Eastern Europe.

InterLAN-IX connects over 130 autonomous systems (ASNs), including ISPs, CDNs, broadcasters, cloud providers, educational institutions, and government networks. With daily traffic peaks regularly exceeding 600 Gbps, the platform enhances routing efficiency, reduces latency, and helps improve the resilience of the internet in the region.

As a member of Euro-IX (since 2008) and RIPE NCC (since 2015), InterLAN-IX actively contributes to the development of best practices and regional collaboration in the IXP community. The platform is also involved in organizing RONOG (Romanian Network Operators Group), fostering dialogue and knowledge exchange among technical professionals and policy stakeholders.

With a strong presence both locally and internationally, InterLAN-IX continues to expand its infrastructure and services to support a secure, efficient, and open internet for Romania and beyond.
