Apto is set to develop Italy’s largest data center campus in Lacchiarella, near Milan. The €3 billion ($3.4 billion) investment will span 228,000 square meters and feature five standalone data centers, designed for high-capacity workloads. The campus will have up to 300MV of planned power capacity, supporting cloud and AI applications in the region.
The site is designed for high efficiency and long-term sustainability, incorporating low-carbon materials and rooftop solar panels generating up to 2,725kWp. It will also have access to renewable energy sources and international submarine cable systems, including BlueMed and 2Africa.
Beyond infrastructure, Apto plans to partner with local schools and universities to enhance digital skills and attract further investment to the region. The company has also committed to upgrading local transport infrastructure and adding a new pedestrian and cycle path.
Russell Poole, CEO of Apto, emphasized the strategic importance of Milan as a high-growth market, stating that the project will provide the digital capacity needed for regional expansion. Apto was launched last year by Pimco, an investment firm owned by Allianz Group, and has a large European real estate platform.
