Amazon Data Services (ADS) Italy s.r.l. has proposed the construction of the Amazon AWS MIL - Zibido San Giacomo data center in a municipality southwest of Milan, Italy. The project site is a flat, low-seismicity agricultural area previously used for gas extraction, selected for its shallow aquifer to provide water cooling for the facility. Project documentation submitted to the Ministry of the Environment and Energy Security includes geological, acoustic, and environmental impact assessments. While simulations indicate standard operations comply with noise regulations, the project has faced local scrutiny regarding land consumption, cumulative environmental impacts, potential hydraulic risks, and the routing of its power line across private agricultural property.
