GEN01 acts as a carrier-neutral, open gateway into mainland Europe. Genoa already serves as a landing point for several transcontinental and regional submarine cable systems. The data center enables cable consortiums to land new cables and interconnect with submarine and terrestrial networks, DWDM gateways, content peering nodes, IXPs, and cloud on-ramps. It provides diversity and resiliency for new submarine cables connecting to Europe, serving as an alternative to Marseille.
Truly carrier-neutral and open, the facility hosts fibre pairs from multiple submarine cable systems and terrestrial carriers. Networks landing in Europe can choose from various terrestrial carriers for backhaul into FLAP metros, avoiding restrictions or forced traffic exchange in Milan. Additionally, GEN01 hosts two international IXPs, allowing carriers and networks to interconnect and exchange data within the facility without requiring further backhaul into remote data centers.
