Premier Periclase Ltd plans to build a three-story data center in Drogheda, County Louth, with a total ground floor area of 26,550 sqm and a maximum height of 29 meters. The facility will feature rooftop solar panels and a green wall for visual and environmental enhancement. An adjacent energy center will span 6,655 sqm and house nine gas engines, mechanical and electrical rooms, UPS systems, and telecommunication infrastructure.
Supporting infrastructure will include a single-story operations center, ESB substation, Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) compound, cooling compound substation, and a thermal store compound. The majority of the power supply is expected to come from natural gas, with renewable energy components integrated via solar arrays on both main structures.
The development is situated on Premier Periclase’s existing production site on Boyne Road and has received conditional planning approval. However, environmental objections have been raised concerning energy consumption, carbon emissions, water abstraction, and compliance with Ireland’s Climate Act. Despite this, the proposal represents a significant expansion of digital infrastructure in the region.
