Global Interconnection Group (GIG)

Scale42 and Global Interconnection Group (GIG) are planning a 50MW AI-optimized data center campus in Bakki, Húsavík, located in northern Iceland. The project will be developed through their joint venture, GIGA-42 Holdings Ltd., in partnership with Norðurþing Municipality.

The campus will be modular and built in phases, with proximity to Landsnet’s 220kV transmission line, the Bakki substation, and fiber connectivity. It will be one of the largest data center sites in Iceland, targeting first-phase operations by 2027.

The initiative is part of a broader Nordic pipeline, with GIG contributing expertise in energy transmission and interconnection, and Scale42 bringing its experience in high-density, renewable-powered compute infrastructure. The site will be co-located with renewable energy generation and integrated into regional industrial redevelopment.
