Renewable energy firm Friesen Elektra is proposing a data center project in Sande, Lower Saxony, Germany. The facility would be located at the company's existing 'Wasserstoffpark Friesland' site. The data center is planned to be powered by regional surpluses of green electricity, drawing from the 380 kV high-voltage grid, and will not impact the local power supply for homes and businesses. Cooling will be managed through an extension of the closed-loop water system already designed for the hydrogen facility, utilizing wastewater, seawater drainage, and surface drainage from the nearby Ems-Jade Canal. The overall hydrogen park targets 400MW of power generation. The project requires a zoning exemption as the site is not currently zoned for data center construction. The proposal has advanced through initial municipal discussions and awaits further administrative and district authority approvals.
