MPCDF Planegg

Germany’s Max Planck Society is constructing a new data center in Planegg, near Munich. This facility, operated by the Max Planck Computing and Data Facility (MPCDF), aims to consolidate computing resources for all Max Planck research institutes, enhancing collaboration and accelerating data-intensive scientific research. The project is part of a wider campus renovation in Martinsried, with initial operations expected by 2027 and full build-out by 2037. The facility will leverage existing computing capacity and is designed to support advanced calculations and analyses. Waste heat generated by the data center will be made available to third parties. The Max Planck Society, founded in 1911, is a renowned association of German research institutes dedicated to advancing natural, life, and social sciences, as well as arts and humanities.
