The Wirth Group is developing Engrida, a 707MW hyperscale data center in Philippsburg, Germany. Located on an industrial park, the facility will utilize the existing 380kV grid connection from the former Philippsburg Nuclear Power Plant site and high-voltage transmission equipment for a nearby wind power plant.
Engrida is planned to be large enough to encompass a former Goodyear tire factory and the decommissioned nuclear power plant. The project aims to integrate energy, grid, and data into a unified platform. The municipality will benefit from a district heating system that utilizes waste heat from the data center's server racks.
While the Wirth Group is the developer, the project is seeking a major investor, with a preference for German or European companies. Philippsburg was chosen for its substantial electricity transmission infrastructure, with nearby Karlsruhe being a recognized data center hub.
