DataHall GmbH is planning a new data center facility in Halle (Saale), Germany, with construction slated to begin in 2026 and a go-live date anticipated for 2027/2028.
The initial phase of the facility will offer approximately 4MW of capacity, with ambitious plans for future expansion to over 200MW in phases over the next decade. The data center will incorporate direct current transmission technology and aims to provide a mix of colocation services alongside hosting for customer-owned AI hardware.
A key feature of the DataHall Halle (Saale) facility will be the integration of CMBlu Energy's "Organic Solidflow" redox flow batteries. DataHall plans to initially install 4MW of these batteries, with a long-term goal of scaling to 50MW. This technology utilizes non-toxic, carbon-based liquid electrolytes, positioning it as an alternative to traditional lithium-ion batteries.
Furthermore, DataHall intends to contribute to the local energy infrastructure by offering its waste heat to the district heating network. The company's vision, as stated by MD Christoph Wegner, is to develop a data center concept that functions as an integral part of a larger energy system.
