Amazon Web Services (AWS) is establishing a new data center facility in Schöneck, Germany, located in the Kilianstädten North II industrial park. This development marks a substantial investment, with AWS reportedly committing over €1 billion to the Schöneck site alone. Schöneck and the neighboring municipality of Maintal are situated on the outskirts of Frankfurt am Main, a key hub for data center operations in Germany and Europe. The Schöneck data center will occupy a seven-hectare plot. While specific details regarding the number of buildings and construction timelines are yet to be disclosed, the project was selected following a competitive bidding process. AWS launched its Frankfurt cloud region in 2014, its second in Europe. The company also operates its European Sovereign Cloud subsidiary from data centers in Brandenburg.
