Hochtief is developing a 2MW Edge data center in Herne, Germany, under the Yexio brand. The facility will be built using timber and designed with sustainability in mind, including direct water cooling and integration with the local district heating network.
The site is located in the Funkenberg Quartier, a redeveloped industrial zone north of Herne’s railway station. The data center will feature a living green wall and is planned to be expandable to 4MW.
Construction is expected to begin in 2025, with commissioning targeted for mid-2027. The project is part of Hochtief’s broader strategy to deploy a network of 15 liquid-cooled, wooden-frame Edge data centers across Germany.
