Microsoft is set to build two new data centers near Cologne, Germany, as part of a significant investment program aimed at doubling its AI infrastructure and cloud computing capacity in the country. These facilities will be located in Bergheim and Bedburg, two towns in the Rhein-Erft district, west of Cologne.
The Bergheim data center will be situated on a 20-hectare site at the INKA: terra nova industrial park, while the Bedburg facility will occupy an 18-hectare site at the new BEB61 industrial estate. The Bergheim facility is expected to cover 270,605 square feet. Construction for both sites is set to begin this year, with operations slated to commence in 2026.
This development is part of Microsoft's broader strategy to enhance its digital infrastructure in Germany, following a €3.2 billion investment announced earlier this year. The new data centers will support the growing demand for AI and cloud services, providing critical infrastructure for businesses and public institutions in the region.
