Groupama’s backup data center near Rennes, known as “M2,” spans 3,250 square meters and was designed by APL to complement the primary Bourges facility. It serves dual roles: disaster recovery and hosting part of Groupama’s development IT. The site was built with modular scalability in mind, featuring four 200 m² server rooms with power densities ranging from 1.5 to 3 kW/m².

Energy efficiency is a cornerstone of M2’s design. The facility targets a Power Usage Effectiveness (PUE) of 1.3, achieved through a combination of free cooling and redundant chilled water systems. This hybrid approach allows the data center to minimize energy consumption while maintaining high availability, even during peak loads or maintenance operations.

All technical systems, including electrical and climate control, are fully redundant to ensure uninterrupted service. The architecture supports phased power upgrades in 300 kW increments without disrupting operations, and the site complies with flood risk and seismic regulations. M2 exemplifies Groupama’s commitment to sustainable, resilient infrastructure.
