CERN's Prévessin Data Centre (PDC), located in Prévessin, France, is a state-of-the-art facility designed to enhance CERN's computing infrastructure and support the High-Luminosity Large Hadron Collider (HL-LHC). Spanning 6,000 square meters across six rooms, the data center is built for energy efficiency with a PUE target of 1.1 and a WUE target of 0.379 liters per kWh. It features advanced cooling systems that utilize ambient temperatures and a heat recovery system to provide warmth to local buildings. The facility is designed for phased deployment, with initial capacity of 4MW and a projected full build-out over a decade to accommodate the increasing data processing demands from particle physics experiments. The PDC complements CERN's existing Meyrin Data Centre, bolstering business continuity and disaster recovery capabilities with a focus on sustainable and scalable operations.
