ECOBIO-H2 Data Center

The EcobioH2 data center is a pioneering urban facility in Avignon, France, integrated into a cultural and ecological third place. It became operational with full green hydrogen integration in June 2023. Led by urban planner Jean-Pierre Gautry, the center emphasizes local digital sovereignty and zero-carbon operations, supporting community activities such as artistic productions during events like the Avignon Festival.

This small-scale datacenter currently operates at around 10 kW, powered by 100% renewable energy through solar panels combined with a hybrid storage system featuring hydrogen fuel cells and recyclable batteries. Optimized for efficiency without air conditioning, it repurposes excess heat for hot water and connects to a renewable grid for reliability. The technology addresses the digital sector's environmental impact, comparable to global aviation emissions.

Funded as an ADEME pilot, EcobioH2 collaborates with partners like HELION Hydrogen Power and ZenT for innovative green solutions. Plans aim to scale to 100 kW by 2027, potentially expanding facilities.
