Helios Nordic Energy AB is planning a significant data center development in the Koivu area of Tervola, Finnish Lapland. The project, submitted via the Helios 1 Cranberry Oy affiliate, is slated for a substantial 860-hectare site. This initiative aims to capitalize on Finland's advantages for data center operations, including a stable and predictable regulatory environment, a robust electricity grid, a cool climate conducive to efficient cooling, and high-quality telecommunications infrastructure. Tervola's Mayor, Mika Simoska, highlighted the project's alignment with the municipality's focus on renewable energy, noting that it will enable local utilization of renewable energy produced in the region and provide a positive economic stimulus. This marks Helios Nordic Energy's third announced data center project, following plans in Lapinlahti and Iisalmi. The company, founded in 2019 and owned by VINCI Group since 2024, has a strong background in renewable energy projects across the Nordics.
