Vatajankoski's Kankaanpää Data Center is a 2MW water-cooled facility designed to supply 20% of the district heating demand in Kankaanpää, Finland. The data center, operated by E-Heat Oy, consists of 12 server cabinets, with waste heat fully integrated into the local heating network during colder months.
The facility utilizes heat pumps from Calefa Oy to raise the cooling water temperature from 55°C to 70–85°C, making it suitable for district heating. This initiative aligns with Vatajankoski’s broader strategy of reducing emissions and energy costs through waste heat recovery.
With this project, Vatajankoski now produces up to 50% of its district heating from recycled heat sources, reinforcing its commitment to sustainable energy solutions. Future expansions aim to further increase the share of waste heat in the heating network.
