APL Varkaus

APL Group is developing a hyperscale data center campus in Varkaus, Finland, marking its first major investment in the Nordic region. The facility will be built on a 28-hectare site and is designed to support up to 100 MW of capacity, with an initial 60 MW phase and a planned 40 MW expansion. The data center will span 75,000 square meters and benefit from Finland’s stable energy infrastructure and low-risk grid environment.

The project is being developed in close collaboration with local stakeholders, with Scale42 serving as an advisor. APL aims to strengthen Europe's cloud, AI, and digital infrastructure while ensuring sustainable operations powered by low-carbon energy. The investment is expected to contribute to regional growth by creating jobs and supporting technological innovation.

Varkaus has been actively seeking a data center developer for several years, and this project aligns with the city's transformation into a regional hub for digital infrastructure. Construction is expected to begin in 2026, with the first phase going live in 2027. The initiative reflects APL’s broader strategy of investing in scalable infrastructure across high-potential global markets.
