Sesterce Jämsä is a significant AI data center campus project located in Jämsä, Finland, on the former Kaipola paper mill site. The French company Sesterce plans an investment of $10 billion for this development.
The campus will feature a phased capacity expansion, starting with 200MW in its first phase and projected to reach 600MW in the second phase. Sesterce has a long-term vision to develop over 1GW of capacity in Finland.
A key commitment from Sesterce is to enable 1MW of newly built renewable generation capacity for every 1MW consumed by the campus within 10 years of operation. The facility will utilize a closed-loop liquid cooling system, supplemented by harvested rainwater and recycled water. Additionally, Sesterce is establishing a $10 million community fund for local projects in Jämsä.
The project aims to leverage existing infrastructure, including power grids and water systems, while preserving the area's industrial identity. The design emphasizes energy-efficient and flexible operations, with considerations for waste heat utilization.
