Meta Esbjerg Data Center

The 214 acre (2,143,850 m2) plot in Andrup was initially rumored for data center use in 2018, which was later pinpointed to Facebook (Meta) being behind the project.

In March 2019 Facebook decided to shelve the project and the local municipal purchased the land with the intention of attracting another project. Close proximity to multiple submarine fiber cables and high voltage power transmission lines, made it an appealing location for data center use.

In 2021 Facebook decided to re-engage in the project and acquired the plot of land from the local Esbjeg Municipal.
The plot was acquired by Notitia Networks ApS, a Danish subsidiary of Facebook International Operations Limited incorporated in Ireland.

According to local media, the plans were to establish 200,000 m2 of data halls, 50,000 m2 of administrative/logistics buildings and 1-2 substations of 30,000 m2 + 6,500 m2 of backup power infrastructure.

In 2022 it was announced that Meta paused/suspended the project, but they are still the owners of the plot.

The project resulted in a local shortcut road being closed, causing dissatisfaction with locals.
