MegaFon is one of three major mobile networks in Russia, and the only one that operates its own network and provides a range of services throughout the country. We have more than 52 million active subscriber accounts, and subsidiaries in Tajikistan, Abkhazia and South Ossetia.

Leadership through advanced technologies
We have always implemented the most advanced technologies, and were the first nationwide mobile operator to use the GSM 900/1800 standard. More recently we were the first to launch 3G services using UMTS – the most promising communication standard – making the mobile Internet a convenient and effective tool for our customers.
This has enabled us to become market leader in Russia by number of 3G users and consolidated revenues from 3G services, and the second largest network in Russia for overall subscriber numbers. Even more importantly, we have driven progress for Russia’s entire telecommunications industry.
In June 2010 MegaFon acquired 100% of the shares of Synterra, a company with a large terrestrial and satellite telecommunications infrastructure, to improve our leadership capabilities in the segments of long-distance communications, fixed-line and mobile broadband Internet and convergent services.
Financial responsibility, international recognition
MegaFon has always acted responsibly and conservatively. This meant we were able not just to weather the recent financial crisis, but to strengthen our position and tackle new challenges. In 2009, the major international credit rating agencies raised our investment and credit ratings to a level never before reached by a Russian telecommunications company (Standard&Poor’s: “BBB-/Stable” long term international, “ruAAA” long term –Russian national scale; Moody’s: “Ba1/Stable”).
We also received international recognition by becoming a General Partner and the official mobile service provider to the XXII Winter Olympic Games and XI Paralympic Winter Games in 2014 in Sochi. We are determined to help make the Sochi Games the most innovative and technologically advanced in history, while continuing to apply to our own business the Olympic motto: “Faster, higher, stronger!”.
MegaFon has achieved much in a short space of time. We have a strong brand and offer world-class service standards. But we know that our continued success depends on our determination to set and achieve ever more ambitious targets.
