Jinko Power, a subsidiary of Jinko Solar, is planning a significant entry into the data center market with a 1GW AI data center located in Zhongwei, China. This desert facility will be powered directly by a solar plant, leveraging the abundant clean energy potential of western China. The project, which has a framework investment agreement with the Zhongwei municipal government, is estimated to cost RMB 24.5 billion ($3.6 billion) and will span over 534,000 square meters (5.75 million sq ft). The data center is designed to accommodate approximately 50,000 standard racks and will be developed in three phases. The provisional completion date is set for 2028, though the agreement is preliminary and subject to approvals. This initiative aligns with China's 'Eastern Data, Western Computing' strategy, aiming to relocate data centers to western regions for improved cooling efficiency and access to renewable energy sources. Jinko Solar, headquartered in Shanghai, is a global leader in solar panel manufacturing, and Jinko Power, its utility-scale solar arm, has a substantial installed capacity and development pipeline.
