The Three Gorges Dongyue Temple data center, located in Yichang, China, is a significant digital infrastructure project by the Three Gorges Group (CTG). Developed in partnership with Huawei Digital Power, the facility leverages hydropower from the Three Gorges Dam for its energy needs and utilizes river water for natural cooling.
The first phase, completed in February 2021, spans 40,000 sqm and accommodates 4,400 racks. Upon full build-out, the center will cover 100,000 sqm across five buildings, offering capacity for 26,400 racks. It is designed to be a major data center hub in central China, providing secure, efficient, and low-carbon digital infrastructure.
Huawei's contribution includes modular equipment rooms, PowerPODs, battery energy storage, and an AI-Robot for inspections. The facility supports various services, including rack colocation, cloud services with flexible configurations and national security certifications, and high-performance computing with a range of GPUs for AI and complex calculations.
