Algoma Data Center

Algoma Data Center is a proposed 400MW AI data center planned for Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, Canada. The project is a collaboration between Algoma Steel, an integrated primary steel producer founded in 1901, and Red Jar Energy Partners, an energy and environmental infrastructure developer. While an operational date of October 1, 2029, has been suggested, the project is subject to various approval processes, including the Ontario Data Center Playbook. The city council has also initiated a moratorium on data centers pending the creation of a new framework. Company representatives acknowledge community interest and the need to address electricity requirements, infrastructure, environmental impacts, and regional benefits.
