Meta Sturgeon Data Centre

Meta is constructing a 1GW data center in Sturgeon County, Alberta, Canada, marking its first facility in the country. This project represents a significant investment of over CA$13 billion and is expected to create approximately 3,000 construction jobs and support over 300 operational jobs. The data center will feature a water-efficient closed-loop liquid cooling system with dry cooling, minimizing operational water use. Meta is committed to environmental stewardship, aiming to be water positive by 2030 and partnering with local organizations to conserve natural resources. The facility will be powered by 100% clean and renewable energy, with Meta fully funding new generation and grid infrastructure to enhance reliability for all consumers in Alberta. Meta is also investing approximately CA$60 million in local infrastructure improvements, including roads and water systems, and launching a community action grants program. The Sturgeon Data Centre is part of Meta's global infrastructure designed to connect billions of people worldwide.
