The Beacon Foothills Artificial Intelligence Hub is a proposed $4-billion data center development in Foothills County, Alberta, near High River. Spearheaded by Beacon Data Centers, this project aims to establish a 400MW AI-driven facility with on-site power generation capacity.

The hub will span 260+ acres and feature five two-story buildings, designed to support hyperscale cloud computing and AI applications. Once operational, the facility is expected to create 300 jobs.

Strategically located near Highway 2, the site falls within the Foothills Crossing Area Structure Plan (ASP), which is undergoing amendments to accommodate the data center. The project is currently in the proposal stage, with public hearings and regulatory approvals in progress.

Beacon Data Centers is working alongside Stantec, a consulting firm, to refine the development plan. The facility will utilize excess electricity from Alberta’s energy grid, and its cooling system will rely on air-based technology, eliminating the need for water-based cooling.

The Alberta Electric System Operator (AESO) is assessing the project’s energy requirements, with grid connection expected by late 2026. If approved, the Beacon Foothills AI Hub will be a major addition to Alberta’s growing digital infrastructure, reinforcing the province’s position as a premier destination for large-scale data centers.
