The Google Saint-Ghislain Campus, located in St. Ghislain-Mons, Belgium, is a testament to technological innovation and sustainability. This data center site, including DC4 (sitecode GBL4), employs advanced cooling techniques, utilizing chilled water from an industrial canal to manage server temperatures. Power generation is supported by an integrated solar farm, contributing to the campus's commitment to climate-friendly data solutions. Since 2007, Google has invested over €5 billion in Belgium, focusing on data centers and related infrastructure. Notably, the site features the first battery-based system in Belgium for replacing generators at a hyperscale data center, optimizing energy usage by shifting from high CO2 grid hours to carbon-free hours. In 2022, Google achieved an 82% carbon-free energy score for Belgium. The campus also supports local development, including a Data Centre program launched in 2019 to upskill maintenance staff.
