The proposed data center in Chicago, Illinois, is set to transform a former truck-trailer parking lot at 2500-2540 South Wabash Avenue into a modern facility. Spearheaded by Lincolnshire-based developer Scott Greenberg, this privately-funded $40 million project will feature a two-story building spanning 76,000 square feet. Designed to cater to research institutions, universities, and government agencies, the data center will include seven backup generators, a large privacy fence, and even a small coffee shop on the ground floor.

The site was previously zoned for a 108,000-square-foot esports stadium, but those plans fell through. Greenberg purchased the land in 2020 for nearly $7 million and has now pivoted to meet the growing demand for secure and manageable data center facilities. The project is expected to be completed within 18 months, although the construction start date has not yet been announced. Chicago's robust data center market further underscores the strategic importance of this development.
